Designing Fail-Safe Automation with the LEO CR – 8 Channel USB Relay Module

In many automation and control systems, it is important to define what should happen when a fault, emergency condition, or abnormal input is detected. Instead of relying on a host PC to continuously monitor the system and issue relay commands, the LEO CR – 8 Channel USB Relay Module can perform this response directly using its built-in IO Failsafe and Smart Action features.

Example Flow

Normal Condition
       ↓
System Operating
       ↓
Fault / Trigger Input
       ↓
LEO CR module Detects Condition
       ↓
Predefined Safe Relay State
       ↓
System Enters Safe Condition

Configuration

The fail-safe behavior is configured by associating a digital input with a trigger condition and defining the relay state to be applied when the condition occurs.

For example, the following configuration can be used to monitor Input 0 and turn OFF all eight relays when the input reaches the configured trigger state:

fs 000 L A 0000

Here:

  • 000 – Digital Input 0
  • L – Trigger when the input is LOW
  • A – Relay group A
  • 0000 – Relay state to be applied; all relays OFF

The configuration can be stored in the LEO CR – 8 Channel USB Relay Module so that the predefined response is available during operation without requiring continuous commands from the host.

Operating Sequence

Once configured, for each power reset, the system operates as follows:

System Operating
       ↓
Input 0 = Normal
       ↓
Relays remain in Operating State
       ↓
Fault Condition Occurs
       ↓
Input 0 → LOW
       ↓
LEO CR module Detects Trigger
       ↓
Relay Group A → 0000
       ↓
All Relays OFF

Summary

The key advantage of this configuration is that the LEO CR – 8 Channel USB Relay Module can handle the configured input-to-relay response directly. The host PC does not need to continuously poll the input and send relay commands when the fault condition occurs.

This makes the approach suitable for applications such as equipment shutdown, power control, interlocking, and fault-response automation.

For the complete fail-safe command syntax, relay groups, input configuration, and other supported automation features, refer to the LEO CR – 8 Channel USB Relay Module documentation.
